I put my private concerts on hold for The Big Pan. But in the last couple of years I’ve taken on a few. One was a lovely evening near Olympia, a favorite city of mine. One was a Memorial service in Poulsbo — as beautiful an experience as I’ve ever had singing. In fact, I did a little crying in that one, but the audience didn’t mind. I still carry that one with me.
I’ve played almost every area of the US and private concerts as far away as New Zealand. I smile just thinking back to the places and the people. A backyard deck in Virginia where I saw fireflies for the first time. An old barn in Maine where someone had hired me privately, but then shared me with the entire town. A great log home in Big Sky, Montana and lush backyard gardens in Beverly Hills. A backyard in Casper, Wyoming and a Stone house overlooking a rushing river in Utah.
Before you start thinking, “Well dang it! I just live in a regular house!” Well, that’s where most of my concerts have been. Usually, I’m playing an intimate concert for friends and family gathered around a living room or back yard.
The thing about my private concerts is that they are born of something really beautiful, I’m looking at a roomful of people who all love each other. That’s hard to beat as audiences go.
I’ll help you figure out where best to set me up, how to get a small PA for the night, where to place a lamp or two if we need it, and even how to plan the day so that you get the most of my concert. I’ve been doing this a long time and can help you have something so memorable your friends will be talking about it for years.
My fees vary considerably because the conditions, travel, time of year, day of the week, weather, etc., also vary wildly. In general, my fee runs from $6000 - $10,000, plus all travel and accommodations. Travel is key. Are you far away enough that I’d need to fly in a day early? That will matter. Your event is important and we can’t take any chances that travel will fail us.
My fee, plus all travel costs and hotel are required. We can talk about those details. However, I’ve played two events by way of Zoom, which were less and saved hotel and travel costs.
I hope this will help you decide if this is something you’re really interested in. If you decide that it is, please write a brief idea of what you have in mind, and where you are with city, state and date of event. Include in your proposal the fee you have in mind. I’m not usually the one who handles this part. We can certainly correspond, but someone else often works out these details initially, then you and I will work out the nuances, and find a way to make this something very special for you and your friends.
Thank you for your interest and for listening to my music.
In Friendship, Michael Tomlinson
