Hiring for Private Performances

Many times over the years, people have asked to hire me for private concerts. I've flown around the country to play in people's homes, at private corporate events, outdoor concerts, river-rafting trips, boat cruises, holidays, birthday celebrations, even a house-warming once. I realize it is quite expensive for one person to pay my fee, rather than for it to be shared by the ticket-buying of an entire audience. For that reason I have not publicized that I do these events.

Still, some of the most enjoyable concerts I've ever played have been for a group of people who had never heard me, in a situation hosted by someone who was my biggest fan and wanted to bring me in for a special show for friends and family. As long as the event is set up as a real concert, I'm happy to play. I quit playing for crowds that are mostly talking about fifteen years ago. But if you are interested in setting up a private concert for any number of folks and want to talk it over, feel free to contact me and we explore the possibilities.

A great deal of my money at concerts comes from CD sales. Usually, when I'm playing private events, the audience is small and therefore, so are CD sales. For that reason, my fee is larger for small audiences. Still, I'm open to discussion and you will not insult me by offering alternatives to the fees I've listed below.

One more consideration for private shows is that they are in some ways more intense. I may be singing for ten people or a hundred. It is vitally important to me that I have the freedom to decide how long the concert goes. I've learned to sense when it is time to close or when to continue. I'm not in the least miserly about my playing, I just want it to work well for the most possible people in a given situation. Whereas the person who hired me may want me to go on and on for hours, if there are a number of new listeners there, they may need a shorter show to feel satisfied. I long ago learned that a successful concert ends just when the greatest number of people still yearn for a little bit more. Thanks for listening and for sharing me with your friends.

FEES FOR PRIVATE PERFORMANCES;

Depending upon the event, place and what is required, my private concerts usually run from $4000 - $8000. Corporate events are a little higher and in most cases, air and transportation must be included. There are several factors I consider, so don't be shy about telling me specifically what you'd like and what arrangement would most please you. Another thing I've learned over time is that when you ask people what arrangement would make them most happy, you often find that you can actually meet those desires and everyone is happy about it.
