Want to own my 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible? Want to own my 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible? Want to own my 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible?

$16,000 and she's all yours. (I'll even sign 'er for ye)  see video

In 1986 after performing at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles with my band, I drove down to San Diego with my friend, Rick Grant.  I'd been looking all over Seattle for an older model convertible and hadn't found anything, but Rick had noticed a 1964 Malibu convertible for sale a couple of blocks from the beach. So we drove by one day to take a look at it. I'll never forget what happened.

Rick immediately hopped inside the car and sat at the wheel. I walked to the front of the vehicle and stood there looking at the sleek, classic lines of the car. Then my eyes dropped down to the license tag and suddenly, my hair stood on end. The tag contained my initials, MT. And was followed by the day I'd driven down there, 5/21; May 21st.

I said, "Rick, come here. You've got to see this." We both stood there with goose bumps. I had no idea yet what the price was or if I could get it, yet I knew this was my car. We knocked on the door and within an hour I was driving away in my Malibu convertible. Rick named it The Blue Bu, and I've driven that car every summer since that day.

A couple of years after I bought the car I took it to a very talented rebuilder. My friend, Gary Blue, spent a year and a half restoring that car for me. New engine and transmission, new interior and top.
Took the paint down to the metal and started all over again. Gave it the most beautiful paint job I could imagine. Around 1990 I drove to Tacoma and picked up my Malibu. Wow! I'd already loved it, but what Gary had done with it was beyond my dreams.

All the years since I've driven that car all summer long, driving up into the Cascades, all around Seattle and over to the Olympic Peninsula. All my friends love this car and have hilarious stories to tell about things we did and where it took us.

Well, I'm ready to let 'er go to someone else now. I don't drive it nearly as often any more and I could use the money. So I'm hoping there will be somebody out there that is ready to take their turn. Of course, it's got wear and tear over 20 years, but I recently drove it to Tacoma to ask Gary to tighten it up a bit and make it ready to sell. He got tears in his eyes when he saw the great condition it's still in. He called his son to come over and take a look. Aaron had worked on the car way back then, too. They were both amazed that I'd kept it in such good condition all those years.

The interior is worn and it's something I'd redo if I was just now buying it. But the engine sure doesn't need anything. The paint is about 99% as beautiful as it was when he'd just restored it. Top is great. It's a mildly worn classic car that was never meant to be a show car, so I never took it all the way to that level. But I can tell you that I've had more people ask if I'd be interested in selling it than any car I've ever owned.

If you look this car up in The National-Automobile-Dealers-Assn book, they list it for $19,500.  I'm selling it for $16,000.  You can see the car in action on my latest music video on YouTube. We used it in the song, The Way Out West. So take a look. If you have questions, let me know.
