Live in the Pacific
Northwest
My live concerts have always felt very personal to me,
every night different in some way from the other, but
all of them special to me in some way. I think you'd
be surprised, if you told me of a time or place when
you came to listen to me over the years, that I am
almost always able to tell you something about that
night that stayed with me. This is true partly because
I have not burned myself out traveling and performing
over the years. My concerts are rare and scattered
about the country. And so there is the opportunity to
associate place and weather and people with a certain
night I sang in an adobe building in Taos or a rooftop
in Fairbanks, a winery near Big Sur or an island off
the coast of Maine.

In recent years I have played more often
in the West, from Colorado to California, Oregon and
Washington. And I hear from people all over the US and in
other countries who wish that I would come and sing in their
town. I'd love to do that, and I hope it happens. But in the
meantime, I thought it would be a friendly thing to invite you
to my beautiful part of the country; to the magnificent
Pacific Northwest, where so many of my songs and friendships
have been born.

I chose a season I love, just two nights after
Thanksgiving, to invite people to come and join me in
recording the event; stories, laughter, songs;
whatever happened that night onstage. Fortunately, I
have an excellent engineer who records me, Jay Kenney,
and who was able to edit out long bouts of frustrating
tuning and a couple of songs that I mangled. So as far
as you know, I'm a man who seldom misses a chord and
almost never forgets a lyric. Ha. |

My intention was first of all to offer you, the
people who have long loved my music, a night of songs
and stories that would take you away for an hour and
a-half, perhaps enticing you to breathe and let go of
all that stresses you or causes you worry. Music and
friendship can do that if you give it a chance. But
also, it was my intention to create something that you
might want to share with others you know who could use
a little kindness and gentleness in their life.

Thank you for reading my words and listening to my
songs. I hope you enjoy my new album, Live in the
Pacific Northwest, and feel a little lighter and more
alive because of it. |
Your friend,
~Michael Tomlinson |
